New Enquiries for training.

Trade Skills 4U: Update 20/03/20

We think its important that the electrical and internet system be maintained and repaired during the Covid crisis which is why we will be playing our part by ensuring the electrical workforce have updated skills and are relevant and current in their operating knowledge. So from Monday 23rd March Trade Skills 4 U's service will continue to operate but now under social distancing protocols but with no requirement to change our current training schedule. We do however wish to plan for all eventualities. At all times we will be following the advice of Public Health England, The Department for Education and the local authorities where our Training Centres are located. Please understand that in such a live, evolving and challenging situation, we have limited ability to respond to questions about individual circumstances and this update is intended to help answer questions you may have.

We will use all channels of communication to provide further updates when necessary.

General health advice

Individuals who need advice on personal circumstances, including those who are immunocompromised, should seek it from NHS 111 or the 111 online coronavirus service.
Students are asked to speak with their Personal Tutor in the first instance following any specific advice from a medical service or professional.

Hygiene: The likelihood of infection reduces with good hygiene practices. Please follow good hygiene practices and help enforce them with students. Please see this helpful guide from The BBC: Coronavirus information – how to stay safe.

In order to keep you as safe as we are able we will be operating a constant cleaning program. Also our facilities management teams have been regularly checking and keeping soap, sanitisers and toiletries topped up across the our sites, however we encourage individuals to carry their own tissues and personal hand sanitisers with an alcohol content of +60% if possible.

Remote working contingency

Trade Skills 4U intends to stay open and current advice from the government is to do so. In the event of a centre closure, we will communicate to all customers via email and via our website. In order to assist with any closures we ask our students to prepare for learning remotely. It is possible that a number of lessons can be delivered remotely via online software. This would not apply for practical sessions but it is possible that course units can be swapped to encourage continuity of learning and workshop sessions will be scheduled at a later date.

Students are advised to prepare the way to have access to a screen, keyboard (i.e. desktop PC or laptop) and internet connection at home, or alternative place of study, should the centre have to close. If a screen and keyboard is not possible, access to the internet via a mobile device will allow students to continue to work with handwritten notes. We will be able to schedule extra exam sessions as and when required once the learning is complete and any closure has ended.

Teaching staff teams are considering online resources so that content can be readily uploaded to Moodle our online learning portal, so that we can continue to broadly maintain our ability to deliver course content.

Unless your centre is closed, students should continue to follow absence procedures.

Raising awareness

We will be using a number of channels to help raise awareness of the virus and ensure students understand the steps they could take to help prevent or delay its spread, including:

  • discussions in tutorial sessions, including preparing to work remotely and likely contingency measures
  • encouraging good hygiene practice within our community
  • posters on site and online and this dedicated webpage

Whenever there is new information relevant to Trade Skills 4U, we will log updates to these pages at the top of this webpage.
