This 1 Day PAT testing course is suitable for anyone who wants to carry out the physical act of PAT testing equipment to ensure it is safe to use. The course covers the practical act of PAT testing and also the essential theory training required to do the job properly. There is no exam or end assessment, however, at the end of the PAT testing course you will receive a certificate confirming attendance.

Who’s it for?
This 1 day Practical PAT testing course is specifically designed for those who want to carry out the practical act of PAT testing and is suitable for anyone over the age of 18. This course is designed for those with little or no electrical experience.

Our expert teachers provide a relaxed environment where you can ask questions, fully participate and gain hands on experience to develop confident PAT Testing skills to test portable appliances in the UK.

Please be aware that this is not the City & Guilds accredited 2377-22 qualification. If you would like to follow on to do a PAT Test qualification at a later date you can do this at a very affordable price. (see above for course options).
Course content
This 1 day Practical PAT testing course aims to give you an understanding of what portable appliance testing is and will help you identify how to reduce the risk of electric shock, electrocution and electrical fires in the workplace. The course covers the following key topics:
- Legal Requirements
- How Electrical Dangers Arise
- Types and Classes of Appliances
- Inspection
- Earth bond testing
- Insulation resistance testing
- Earth leakage and ‘Run’ tests
- Load tests
- How to record results correctly
Assessments
There is no exam or end assessment, however, at the end of the PAT testing course you will receive a certificate confirming attendance. successful completion of the course.
Course Book Required
You will need the following book for your course:
- IET Code of Practice – In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – 5th Edition. ISBN 978-1785619663
We recommend if you have no electrical knowledge that you familiarise yourself with the book before you come on the course. Ideally if you read the contents page, glossary and the index and find out what the book covers overall this will help you when you start the course.

There are no formal entry requirements however if you are a complete beginner we recommend the 3 day PAT course.

Do I get a qualification?
No, for that you will need to pick one of our 2 or 3 day C&G PAT testing course.
