Can I split the weeks up?

You can choose to complete these classes consecutively, or over a longer period of time.

If you would like to discuss flexible options give us a call on 01293 529777 with your preferred dates.

Yes, you can. You will need to pay a deposit and we can arrange interest-free instalments over the length of your course.

Our Step 1 course will give you fundamental knowledge to kick-start your electrical training. After Step 1 you can choose to work with an electrician as an electrician’s mate, or you can continue your electrical training. To become an electrician you will need to complete all 4 steps, including your AM2 assessment. At this point, you will be recognised as a qualified electrician and eligible to apply for an ECS Gold Card.

Many electricians join competent person schemes (CPS) as it is usually a more convenient and cost-effective way to notify Building Control of completed work. You can undertake notifiable and non-notifiable work without being registered with a CPS and whilst there are obvious business benefits to joining such schemes, they are not mandatory.

You will not be able to join a CPS until you have completed your training including NVQ and AM2.

The best way to get experience is to work with a local electrician or business. If you find suitable employment during any stage of your training don’t forget you can switch to our funded apprenticeship route.

When you have completed Step 1 you may choose to:

  • Work with an electrician as an electrician’s mate. The skills you have gained will make you useful and able to carry out many tasks under supervision.
  • Gain employment and switch to an apprenticeship.
  • Continue your training to Step 2 and complete your Level 2 Diploma.

Notifiable work is a term used to describe particular types of electrical work that are subject to compliance with Building Regulations notification or approval.

Electrical work in a dwelling (England), or associated with its surroundings, is notifiable to a local building control body where the work includes:

  • the installation of a new circuit
  • the replacement of a consumer unit (fusebox)
  • any alteration or addition to an existing circuit in a special location*

*A special location is generally a room containing a bath or shower, swimming pool or sauna heater.
