• 25 days of in-centre training focused on practical exercises and classroom-based theory
• Self-paced eLearning to complete between sessions, helping reinforce your understanding
• Weekday attendance at your nearest training centre, from 09:00 to 16:00

This intensive format is perfect for learners who want to fast-track their progress, gain advanced skills, and unlock opportunities for further training or employment in the electrical industry.

This Level 3 Diploma builds on your existing knowledge and introduces more advanced topics in electrical science, design, and safety. You’ll explore inspection and testing, fault-finding, and emerging technologies—giving you the skills needed to move closer to becoming a qualified electrician.

Modules covered in this course:

301 – Understand the requirements of environmental technology systems

302 – Principles of electrical science
Deepen your understanding of electrical theory, including AC/DC systems, inductance, and electromagnetism.

303 – Fault diagnosis and rectification

How this course is delivered

This course is delivered on weekdays and follows a structured format that blends advanced practical training with guided self-study. Here’s how the programme is typically delivered:

Weeks 1 & 2 – Electrical Systems Design (10 weekdays)
Advance your technical knowledge from Level 2. You’ll explore:

• Earthing systems and protective measures
• Cable selection and sizing
• Selection and routing of containment systems
• Three-phase distribution and design principles

These sessions combine classroom-based theory with practical design exercises to prepare you for real-world applications.

Self-Study eLearning Modules
Between your in-centre sessions, you’ll complete online modules at your own pace covering:

• Electrical science principles
• Environmental technologies
• Inspection and testing procedures

These modules support your in-centre learning and prepare you for the next phase of the course.

Week 3 – Electrical Science (5 weekdays)
Deepen your understanding of electrical theory, including:

• Characteristics of AC and DC current
• Principles of three-phase systems
• Operating principles of AC motors and DC machines
• Electrical components and lighting systems

This week focuses on the science behind safe and efficient electrical installations.

Weeks 4 & 5 – Inspection, Testing & Fault-Finding (10 weekdays)
Learn how to carry out full initial verification of new installations or circuits. You’ll:

• Complete all major tests to confirm safety and readiness for commissioning
• Produce the required documentation for compliance
• Diagnose faults such as insulation resistance issues, continuity problems, and polarity errors
• Use dedicated fault-finding rigs to safely identify and correct faults

These sessions are highly practical and prepare you for real-world fault diagnosis and system commissioning.

This Level 3 Diploma completes your classroom-based electrical training. To become a fully qualified electrician, you’ll need to find suitable employment and complete your NVQ and AM2 assessment of competence. However, there are several other pathways you might consider:

• Find employment and begin your NVQ
  Once you’re working in the industry, you can start your NVQ portfolio and prepare for the AM2 assessment. These are essential steps to becoming fully qualified.
• Transfer to a funded apprenticeship
  Did you know? You can complete your NVQ and AM2 as part of a funded apprenticeship. Speak with our Apprenticeships Team to explore your options—your Level 3 training will count towards your apprenticeship, reducing the time to qualification.
• Start working as an electrical labourer or trainee electrician
  Use your new skills to work under supervision, as part of an electrical team on-site, gaining valuable experience while carrying out basic electrical tasks.
• Take a break and return later
  If you’re not ready to move into employment straight away, you can pause your training and return to complete your NVQ and AM2 when the time is right.
• Explore other industries
  Some learners use their Level 3 qualification as a stepping stone into related fields such as engineering or building services.
