What’s your name and the course you’re studying?

My name is Mike and I’m a domestic electric installers course.

What was your job before studying at Trade Skills 4U?

My previous career was a HGV Driver for 34 years and I’ve had to make a career change due to health grounds.

Why did you choose to train with us?

A lot of the courses were spread around the country and I didn’t want to travel and Warrington was essential for me.

What did you think of the course, tutors & students?

It’s a challenging course and a very rewarding course as well, and I’ll probably be able to extend my working life career probably into my late seventies. Being the oldest on the course I’m sort of chasing the younger ones, but Ralf, the instructor, is very aware of that, so he’s checking with me that I’m understanding and taking things on board. I spoke with the office further on and told them that I.T is not my greatest skill because of my age, I’ve missed it somewhat and that they’ve all said they’re all going to help me and set everything up for me and they’re only a phone call away.

What are your plans after leaving Trade Skills 4U?

I’m hoping to work for somebody as an electrician. It’s just a complete career change for me.

What do you think of the facilities?

I was quite shocked at how good it has been. Coming in in the morning and finding a parking space where you’re not driving around trying to find something and the access from here from Warrington and getting onto the motorway to get back home again. You know everything is great all the way through

Do you have any advice for new students?

I’ve not been in a classroom since I was 16 years old, so if I can do it and I think anybody can do it.
