This course aims to provide practising electricians with the skills and knowledge to install small photovoltaic (PV) systems, such as domestic and small commercial premises.

The course has been structured to meet the requirements of small solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with the IET Code of Practice for Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems and the MCS Standards MIS 3002.

Course modules

The City and Guilds Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Solar Photovoltaic Systems (2922-34) includes several key modules:

  1. Statutory Legislation: Understanding the legal requirements for solar PV installations.
  2. System Components: Learning about the components and architectures of solar PV systems.
  3. Design and Installation: Key considerations for designing and installing solar PV systems.

Focused scope for solar PV

The Solar PV qualification focuses on the electrical design, installation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems.
It does not include:

  • Practical installation on rooftops
  • Roof access or structural modifications

This ensures the course focuses on the specific requirements for electrical design, including array and inverter sizing, and electrical installation and maintenance, up to and including the connection to the PV array.

Course eligibility

The be eligable for this course you must have one of the following:

Current ECS Gold Card for:

  • Installation Electrician
  • Maintenance Electrician
  • Domestic Electrician

Or

Any of the following qualifications plus 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification:

  • C&G 5393 Electrotechnical in Dwellings
  • C&G 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical (installation or maintenance
  • C&G 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing  Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (buildings, structures and the environment)
  • C&G 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • C&G 2347 Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification
Other awarding organisation or historic qualifications
