Electrician in starring role at Old Trafford Rugby League Grand Final!

Posted by Christos Panayiotou on 5th October 2012

Not many people know this but Warrington Wolves team Captain Legend, Adrian Morley, was once an Electrician! Even though he has surpassed a career dealing with cables, he completed his electrical apprenticeship with NG Baileys as a young man.

Adrian also happens to be a friend of ours here at Tradeskills4U. For those who know a bit about our brand, Tradeskills4u owners, Carl & Tracey Bennett, are lifelong supporters of the Wolves spending many weekends and many hours on the road travelling to see their heroes play.

“Adrian is a superb role model at Warrington and a genuinely nice bloke” says Carl, “We had chance to spend some time with Adrian and the team in recent months and the professionalism we witnessed is extraordinary”

“Tomorrow we’ll be a bag of nerves until the final whistle, whatever happens we’ve had a great year, but a win would top it off. I’ll be wearing my lucky primrose and blue socks too!” added Carl.

David Blaine to be 'Electrified' following Electrical Safety Week

Posted by Chloe Bennett on 4th October 2012

Following on the from the 7 day long campaign to raise awareness for electrical Safety, Daredevil and illusionist David Blaine is going to take on his most shocking – excuse the pun- display yet as he is going to spend three days and nights being zapped by 1 million volts.

This new challenge will see the crazy 39 year old don a medieval style chainmail suit complete with wire helmet during the 72 hour task which he has aptly called ‘Electrified.’

The show – if you can call it that – will be projected live at the Truman Brewery in London from 7pm on Saturday and visitors are said to be able to interact with Blaine for an hour from 9pm.

Obviously it goes without saying this is certainly not something to be tried at home or anywhere else for that matter. As to why this gent likes to put himself through ultimate paces is anyone’s guess.

To get a full insight into the dangers of electricity; go on our newly accredited City & Guilds MOD1 & MOD2 courses. They provide a real insight into general electrics; both the installation side and the principles behind installation.

Maybe we should have offered one to Blaine himself? I wonder whether he realises the effects 1 million volts will have on his body?

Bit late now eh? Nevermind.... :)

Powering through; Paralympic Roundup

Posted by Chloe Bennett on 7th September 2012

As nineteen year old Jonnie Peacock raced to win Gold last night in the 100m – T44 Final it’s probably safe to say that was a moment in time for Great Britain. Having lost his right leg after a battle with meningitis, Jonnie proved that anything was possible smashing the Paralympic record with 10.90 seconds. His passion to succeed was echoed by the 80,000 strong crowd that chanted his name around the stadium last night. However in true British style, our nation showed the respect the athletes deserved by falling silent in the moments leading to the race.

His astounding performance came in a night where we saw David ‘The Weirwolf’ Weir and Hannah Cookroft claimed their third and second gold of the games respectively.

Our last Paralympic update highlighted the 54 medals won by our athletes, and only four days later I am about to note the additional 54 bring our total medals won to 108! This total exceeds the predicted total of 103 and with three more days to go before the closing ceremony who knows what this high spirited team are capable of?

Paralympian's; WE ARE IN AWE

Posted by Chloe Bennett on 31st August 2012

Today is the second day of the Paralympics which is extremely exciting however, rather like a waiter delivering a delayed desert, I can’t help but feel we waited a little too long for it all to begin.

This is of course no fault of the outstanding talent that we are watching, but the fault of the officials. I know that London might not have coped if we’d run one straight after another but it wouldn’t it have been nice to elongate the TEAMGB sprit instead of begin subject to the unwelcome 18 day gap between these two great events.

Rant over.

Despite my personal feelings and the inevitable comparisons that will follow, who can deny the incredible performances the London GB 2012 Paralympic team are starting to present.

Described by hosting channel as the ‘Superhumans,’ it is incredibly humbling to watch some of the world’s remarkable athletes reach their dreams having triumphed in the face of adversity.

One incredible athlete who is determined to win gold in the archery competition is American born Matt Stutzman. Despite being born with no arms, the 29 year old uses both his legs to fire the arrows with absolute precision.

Another incredible athlete is Chinese swimmer Tao Zheng who managed to break the men’s S6 100m backstroke yesterday using only the power of his legs. His show stopping performance completed in 1.13.56 was the first of four events he is competing in.

Their courage and ability is outstanding.

Now it’s time for TEAM GB to take the stage…

Having claimed 2 gold’s and 3 silvers in the cycling, a gold and 2 silvers in the swimming, a bronze in the Judo and another bronze in the powerlifting we’re back in our favourite spot of 3rd!

With plenty more in store, the nation is already gripped again and who can blame us as we are witnessing first class performance by what I believe are ‘real life heroes.’

For those of you who have missed the sporting events so far – he’s a recap on the medals won:

Women’s Individual C5 Pursuit – Gold – Sarah Storey OBE

Men’s Individual C4-5 Kilo – Silver – Jon-Allan Butterworth

Men’s Individual C1 Pursuit – Gold – Mark Colbourne

Men’s Individual C1-2-3 Time Trial – Silver – Mark Colbourne

Women’s Individual B Time Trial – Silver – Aileen McGlynn OBE & Helen Scott.

Men’s 60 kg – Bronze – Ben Quilter

Women’s 40kg – Bronze – Zoe Newson

Women’s 100m Backstroke – S6 – Silver – Nyree Kindred MBE

Women’s 400m Freestyle – S12 – Silver – Hannah Russell

Men’s 100m Backstroke – S7 – Gold – Jonathon Fox

With lots more to come, we’ll be keeping on top of the events and the outcomes so you can read the daily digests here.
