Why take the Learning Lounge C&G 2919-01 EV / Car Charging Point Course (eLearning)?
This online course covers the key skills to install, fault find and inspect and test electric vehicle charging points, teaching you all you need to know to become a competent installer.
IMPORTANT: The cost of this courses includes the online learning (with the Learning Lounge), the exam and all course fees including VAT. You can only take your exam at one of our main centres if you book your course via Trade Skills 4U.
This course is designed for fully qualified electricians and covers commercial installations. However we also offer a range of other in centre and online EV course options here.
Full Course Title: Level 3 Award In Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation
Our partnership with Rolec means that on completion of this course you will be able to register with them as an approved installer where you will appear on their national database of installers and this can lead to referrals for installation jobs in your area. Subject to you being registered with a competent persons scheme you will be able to apply for OLEV registration (until 1st April 2022), enabling your customers to access government grants.
Who is EV Charging course for?
This course is intended for practicing electricians and installers who are looking to enhance their current skills allowing them to install domestic, commercial and 'on street' vehicle charging points.
How is the course delivered?
The Learning Lounge course is delivered online and allows you the flexibility to study whenever and wherever suits you, without the need to take time away from work.
The course contains a series of easily digestible videos which include expert input, best practice guides, illustrations and filmed real-life installation examples.
Entry RequirementsAs this qualification covers the installation of charging points in domestic , on-street and commercial settings it is expected that candidates are practising electricians with a formal Level 3 qualification:
- Minimum age 18 years old (mandatory)
Must be able to demonstrate the following competencies
- Be able to correctly install and terminate:
pvc/pvc cable (twin and earth)
Steel Wire armoured cable (swa)
- Be able to carry out an initial verification (inspection and testing) on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork.
Note: These competencies are required for the assessment and are not taught as part of the course.
- It is recommended that you are up-to-date with the 18th edition wiring regulations.

This course will teach you how to design, specify, install, fault find, test and inspect electric vehicle charging points for both the commercial and domestic sector. This includes the ‘on street’ points.
- Introduction to Electric Vehicles - Electric Vehicle types, Characteristics, Charging requirements, Safety considerations
- Overview of Electric Vehicle charging - Modes of charging and requirements, restrictions
- Electrical Installation Requirements - Supply, Earthing, Planning permission, Explosive atmospheres, Protection, Labelling, Control, Risk assessment
- Installation - Practical domestic and commercial installation
- Inspection, Test and Certification - Commissioning and DNO paperwork
- System Test, Fault Finding and Examination - Includes both a practical and written assessments

You will have to complete 2 forms of assessment taken over 2 days. The cost of this course includes 1 attempt at the exam. You will complete:

- Practical Assessment
If you wish you can bring your own tester in for the practical assessment, however it must comply to GS38.
