This online course is ideal if you want to study at home and at your own pace. The course covers all key aspects of the design, specification and installation of electric vehicle charging equipment installation, teaching you everything you need to know to become a proficient installer.
This in depth course lasts 25 hours plus the time taken to complete the assessments in centre. It will help to enhance your expertise on the best practice for electric vehicle charging equipment installation, providing you with a better understanding of how to select and use the correct earthing systems to protect against electric shock. The course also covers vehicle-to-grid, on street installations and smart infrastructure integration.
IMPORTANT: The price of this courses includes the online learning (with the IET), the exam and all course fees including VAT. You can only take your exam at one of our main centres if you book your course via Trade Skills 4U.
Full Course Title: Level 3 Award in Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation
This course is designed for fully qualified electricians and covers commercial installations. However we also offer the following in centre courses:
- A 4 day course for domestic installers only
- A 22 day course for new entrants with no electrical experience
- A 2 day course for experienced electricians
Due to our partnership with Rolec, on passing this course you will be eligible to be registered on their approved installers scheme. Once registered you will appear on their national database of installers, which can lead to referrals for installation jobs in your area and the ability to draw down government funding for charging point installations. Before you can register with Rolec you must join an industry recognised scheme.
Who is the EV Charging Course for?
This course is for experienced electricians and installers looking to enhance their current skillset to allow them to install domestic, commercial and 'on street' vehicle charging points.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however we do expect you to meet the following requirements:
- Minimum age 18 years old (mandatory)
Must be able to demonstrate the following competencies
- Be able to correctly install and terminate:
pvc/pvc cable (twin and earth)
Steel Wire armoured cable (swa)
- Be able to carry out an initial verification (inspection and testing) on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork.
Note: These competencies are required for the assessment and are not taught as part of the course.
- It is recommended that you are up-to-date with your 18th edition wiring regulations.

Through this online course, you will be taught how to design, specify, install, fault find, test and inspect EV charging points for both the domestic and commercial sector. The course covers the requirements detailed in Section 722 of BS 7671:2018+A1:2020 as well as the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 4th Edition.
- How to specify Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations
- How to design electrical installations containing electric vehicle charging and supply equipment
- The steps involved in planning, installing and commissioning of electric vehicle charging points
- Key risks and hazards for various types of installation, and how to address them, including: dwellings, commercial and industrial premises, on-street installations, and filling stations

When you have taken your courses, completed your practice exams and feel ready to take your final exam simply give us a call and we can book your exam in one of our 4 locations across the UK. Please note the prices quoted above include the cost of the online learning and the cost of the exam (inc VAT). You can only take an exam at our centres if you have booked via Trade Skills 4U.
On successful completion of your online course, please contact us on 0800 856 4448 or email email@example.com to book both the practical and online assessments for the City & Guilds 2919 qualification, which must be taken in one of our main centres usually on the same day. The cost of this course includes 1 attempt at the online exam and practical assessment.
You can bring your own tester in for the practical assessment as long as it complies to GS38
