Of all the trades, Tiling is perhaps the most rewarding and one of the most lucrative. It is also a highly skilled craft and is a much more technically challenging than is generally appreciated particularly in the commercial sector.

And there is more to Tiling than just fixing tiles above a kitchen workspace or above a bathroom basin. With the new generation of tiling fixing systems, trims, and new styles of tiles, contemporary materials and natural products, tiling as a skill has never been more in demand or Tiling as a product a more important feature in the home as it is today.

With attractive new and natural products and the availability of more impressive tile styles comes the desire for people to have tiles throughout the home where perhaps carpets or wooden floor may have been the choice in the past.

In short Tiling has had a resurgence becoming more popular and customers have become more demanding in their requirements as a result.

It is no longer acceptable to fix cheap 6”x 6” ceramic tiles above a kitchen worktop, or inside a small shower cubicle. The market and tastes have moved on considerably. Take a walk around your local DIY store, the choice of styles and materials is staggering. Customers need and demand, wet rooms, slate floors throughout, huge porcelain tiles where perhaps a ceramic small square tile would have once sufficed. Granite, Marble, Limestone the choices are endless.

A skill that’s in high demand

With that demand becomes a requirement for skilled people to be able to fix tiles properly and professionally, there are very few good companies offering suitable training.

Qualifications for those new to the industry are not available, therefore, those wishing to learn to tile find it difficult to get on tiling courses UK wide.

Tradeskills 4U have recently tried to address this lack of skilled tiling tradesmen becoming one of the founding members of the Association of Tiling Training Providers, established recently to meet the needs of those wishing to join the Tiling industry.
