Who's it for?
Anyone intending on working at height with Solar Panels. In particular it would be suitable for trainees or new starters in the industry who may be working along side experienced and qualified installers.
You may already be a roofer or working at height in the industry but need to gain your Health & Safety certification.
What's included?
This is a two day course split out as follows:
Day 1
The first day is classroom based. You will receive instruction on Manual Handling, Working at Height and CoSHH. At the end of the day you will then take 3 assessments. Topics covered include:
Outline the main requirements of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
Develop systems and procedures for carrying out and recording manual handling risk assessment
Make recommendations on how to eliminate and control manual handling risks
Why falls from height cause more deaths than any other workplace activity
The requirements of existing legislation and the changes and impact of the new regulations
Safe working procedures for the various types of access equipment
The required risk assessment based approach and planning for all work at height
Limitations on use of ladders and steps
Criteria for selection of access equipment
Requirements regarding training and competence of personnel using access equipment
Duties placed upon designers
Identify the requirements of the COSHH Regulations
Apply the requirements of COSHH to their own workplace
Carry out simple risk assessments and recognise when specialist support is needed

You will take 3 assessments at the end of the day for:

Working at Heights
Manual Handling
Day 2
Practical Implementation of Health and safety in Manual Handling and Working at Height
Basic theory and environmental background
Different types of solar PV technology
Installation of solar PV systems (Fitting the panels to the roof, not connecting the electrical components)
On this second day you will get harnessed up and get stuck in. You will implement the theory and get practical experience of working with real solar panels, fitting them to roofs and using the equipment associated with the Solar PV Industry (such as PAF bags).
