Entry Requirements / Is it for you?
This course is intended for level 3 qualified electricians including trained Domestic Installers who want to install grid connected domestic photovoltaic systems that are either integrated into, or retro fitted onto, a domestic property. You will need the appropriate level 3 electrical qualifications related to electrical installation, knowledge of the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition, Initial inspection and testing 2392 and Part P competency.

City & Guilds 2399 Solar PV Course Content:
The award is made of three units which can be taken as individual courses.
2399-01 – 2 QCF Credits
The first unit will give you a broad understanding of environmental technologies. It will arm you with the knowledge and theory to give advice on suitable environmental technology systems. It will also give you the basic knowledge across a range of systems allowing you to progress and specialise in each one. You will learn about:

Air Source Heat Pumps
Biomass
Solar PV
Micro Wind
Micro Hydro
Combined Heat & Power (CHP)
Rainwater Harvesting

2399-11 - 6 QCF Credits
The second unit is specific to solar PV installation. It is mainly concerned with the application of practical skills in carrying out installation and testing including:
Photovoltaic systems, real solar panels!
Standards and Regulations/Guidelines and Codes of Practice
Safety, scaffolding and harness equipment
PV system components
Position and fixes
Inverter and electrical protection
Performance monitoring
PV Modules and arrays
AC System and metering
Understanding the DC system
Approvals
Installations, fitting panels to a roof, roofing construction and differing tile types.
Commissioning and testing, connecting to the grid.
Customer care, the science and the advice to give to your customer to ensure a properly working and efficient installation.
2399-12 – 4 QCF Credits
The third unit is specific to maintenance and servicing of Solar PV equipment and covers:
The requirements for the routine inspection, service and maintenance of solar photovoltaic system installations
How to diagnose faults in solar photovoltaic system installations
How to rectify faults in solar photovoltaic systems

Exams & Qualifications
Course certification is awarded upon successful completion of both the written and practical assessments; this certificate can then be used as evidence of your training and ability to install and commission PV systems and will be required in order to gain MCS Accreditation.
