The City & Guilds 2394 course is in it's final stages of development. The information below is based on City & Guilds course material however this may be revised in the coming months.
The 2394 qualification is intended to be a replacement for the 2391-10, however it is also very similar to the city & guilds 2392-10 with the addition of 3 phase. Similar to the 2392 and 2391-10 Inspection and Testing qualifications before it, the 2394 includes both theory and hands on training in our state of the art centre.
Entry Requirements / Who’s it for?
This qualification is ideal for contractors already working in industry but needing to learn all about inspection & testing, initial verification and certification. All candidates should have basic knowledge of electrical science and experience of electrical installation.
This qualification is suitable for:
Practising electricians looking to enhance their current knowledge and gain the latest qualification.
The qualification is also suitable for those with limited experience of initial inspection and testing but experience of electrical installation. As such it is also suitable for candidates entering the industry from other engineering or allied trades.

This is a level 3 qualification, however for candidates with limited electrical experience you may want to consider our City & Guilds 2392-10 Inspection & Testing course.
Why take this 2394 Initial Verification & Certification course?
Like the current 2391 qualification, the 2394 course will be highly regarded by many employers in the industry and will be an excellent addition to any electricians CV. It allows you to verify, test and inspect new installations.
Unlike the 2392, this is a level 3 qualification that forms part of the QCF framework. As a level 3 qualification the 2394 is a more advanced course, however our specialist electrical instructors will help you demystify and simplify the qualification providing you with the latest certificate to demonstrate your competency.
One other major difference between this course and the 2392 is that is covers inspection and testing of 3 phase installations.
Like the 2392 before it, this is an essential skill for any electrical installer.
City & Guilds 2394 Course Content:
This 2394 course will enable you to understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with regulations and requirements.
Its content cover the skills and necessary background knowledge for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations.
Key areas covered include:
Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
Requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
Requirements for testing energised installations
Requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates and associated documentation
Safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
Inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment

Exams & Qualifications
You will be assessed in 3 ways; one online multiple choice exam, one written paper and also a practical assessment. These break down as follows:

Principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations (Written)
Principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations (Assignment)
The examination date and time is set nationally and commences at regular intervals set by City and Guilds. The course runs from Monday to Friday with the exam usually taking place the following Wednesday.
